How Drawing Changes Your Brain (+ Flash Sale).
Salutations, friend -
✨ Science ✨ says kids can lose up to 40% of their school year knowledge over the Summer.
(And if you’re an adult who’s been on an extended summer vacation like me - just imagine what’s atrophied 🥴)
Fortunately, science ✨ tells us a bunch of other sweet stuff too - including that drawing substantially increases your memory.
Change On A Structural Level.
Turns out that when you toss an art student in an fMRI machine they’re shown to possess significantly more grey matter in their precuneus (gesundheit) - brain bits responsible for both visual imagery, and memory 😯
When you draw, visual information is accessed in multiple ways. Semantic thinking, motor function, and visual processing happen simultaneously, thereby constructing a surplus of neural connections. This allows you to better process, manipulate, and deconstruct images in your head. Neat!
Additionally, drawing:
Sharpens concentration
Increases fine motor skills
Makes you more creative (but you already knew that one)
And the coolest part is that the effects have nothing to do with artistic ✌️talent✌️. All you need to acquire these benefits is - TO DRAW!
Smart Kids Spend Summers Learning.
Without school, kids are under challenged. Not only do they not learn, but their intellect actively diminishes. Social skills go unpracticed, and atrophy too.
It’s true some students lose 40% over the summer, but it’s also true that some GAIN 32%. Though without structured classes, it can be tough to be a consistent learner.
But most importantly, if you enroll them in drawing lessons, you’ll never ever again hear them say, “I’m booooored” (okay - you might hear it, but at least you’ll have a fantastic riposte in waiting).
Anyhow, we only do 3 sales a year, and this is a quick one. Just wanted to give you a heads up, in case art classes are the sorta thing you’re into 🙂
